Firesides

Continuing a family tradition, Ron and Dwayne Vance are available for firesides in which they tell stories about various members of the Smith family and the roles they played in the Restoration.  The presentation concludes by drawing a parallel between the manner in which Hyrum, as Joseph’s elder brother, firmly stood by Joseph’s side and constantly supported Joseph throughout his life, and the fact that each of us has an elder brother in Jesus Christ who firmly stands by our side and constantly supports us.

For purposes of the presentation, Ron and Dwayne actually dress up like Hyrum and Joseph and speak in the first person.  The relative age difference between Ron and Dwayne is similar to that between Hyrum and Joseph.  However, if the truth be told, Ron and Dwayne are actually too old to play these roles at 52 and 47 years of age respectively; Hyrum was 44 years old when he died, and Joseph was 38 years old.

As a break between the presentations made by Ron and Dwayne, "Brotherly Love"—an original song written by Dwayne and John Butler—is played.

The total presentation last approximately one hour.

Ron and Dwayne will travel to present the fireside as their schedules permit, provided that their travel expenses are paid for any firesides outside of the Salt Lake Valley (Ron and Dwayne do not profit from these presentations, but rather, similar to reimbursing a Scoutmaster for driving his Boy Scouts to scout camp, Ron and Dwayne simply ask that their travel expenses be paid so it does not cost them money to put on these presentations).

In order to avoid multiple firesides within a single ward or stake, stake level firesides are encouraged, or at least multi-ward firesides involving the wards meeting in the same building.  Ideally, at least 100 people should plan on being in attendance, but all requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.  Please send an e-mail to Dwayne at utefan@q.com with requests for firesides.
